SGC! (Sepulveda Garden Center) and Our Plot(s)

I drove by the Sepulveda Garden Center (SGC) and saw a sign up indicating that there were plots available.  Not sure if this is a sign that we're about to plunge into tough economic times again (as there is a very normal yearly rental fee), but the waiting list was like three years long when I inquired about a year ago.

The waiting list this time was about three weeks.

Funny story though - we went looking for one plot and of course were upsold a double plot.  We LOVED it.  It already have a fence around it, was partially shaded, had a cool trellis thing over the entry, was near the parking lot (the other pix below are of the SGC itself and not just the plot - you get e.g. access to the community greenhouse and tool shed) . . .

So . . . much planning and measuring ensued where we mapped out where we were going to plant what given the time of year, what plants were more tolerant of partial shade, blah, blah, blah . . .

THEN - we rcd a called indicating that they made a mistake and those plots were already rented out.  Yikes.  Garrett was NOT happy.  He had become quite attached to the plot.

So - we marched back over there - there was someone coming to see the available plots the next day at 10 AM, so I made them meet me at 8:30 and we got an even better double plot.  We REALLY REALLY love it.  Still has fencing (on three sides), a cool trellis (with flowers on it this time) by the entry, it's near the cactus garden and butterfly gardens (which the kids love), near the bathrooms (which mom loves - and any mom of two little ones gets this - and it's super crazy - the bathrooms are pristine!), the plots around the new location are better cared for, and we're close to a big open grass area to run around and the rose garden.

Perfect.

We left for Hawaii a few days later, so we had a reprieve and were allowed to plant when we returned (you normally forfeit your plot if you don't plant within a week - this place apparently doesn't mess around).

So - updates to follow after the Hawaii entry re planting and our slow and steady progress . . .

BTW - spoiler alert - mommy went from super research mode and mapping everything out to buying herbs and a few tomato and strawberry plants and calling it a wrap to start with . . .
